Pupils at Belvedere Junior School are “happy and safe”, say Ofsted inspectors – Yurika.R

Belvedere Junior School in Bexley is ending the year on a high after the publication of its latest Ofsted report, following an inspection in November 2024.

The primary school, which is part of The Pioneer Academy Trust, has received a glowing report which highlights that “pupils are happy and safe in this nurturing school”.

Inspectors praised the “strong and trusting relationships” pupils have with their teachers and noted that “pupils enjoy learning and achieve well”.

The school’s global citizenship programme was highlighted for “enriching pupils’ broader experiences”. The programme helps build pupils’ “awareness and aspirations of the many opportunities that are available to them beyond the school”.

The school was also commended for “building strong community links”. Inspectors note that “parental engagement is high” with many rightly agreeing that “the school is led with love and compassion”.

Other highlights include:

● Staff take brave and bold actions that are in the best interests of all pupils and the wider community.

● Staff morale is extremely high and staff feel empowered.

● Leaders take appropriate measures to address and overcome pupils’ barriers to learning.

● Promoting a love of reading is central to the curriculum.

● Pupils are aware of how they can contribute to society and the world around them.

This was an ungraded inspection – Belvedere Junior School was rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2015 and a 2019 Ofsted report highlighted that it “continues to be good”. In the new 2024 report, Ofsted makes clear that the school “has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection.”

Belvedere Infant and Junior School has also recently hosted its annual Christmas community meal, which is free for pupils and families. This year, 148 attended on 11 Dec. The meal is funded by The Pioneer Academy Trust and Nourish Contract Catering.

All school pupils also receive a Christmas present before the school holiday.

Miss Lynch, Executive Head Teacher at Belvedere Infant and Junior School, part of The Pioneer Academy Trust said:

“We are all really pleased that this report highlights the strong community focus we have here at the Belvedere Schools.

“I want to thank all our pupils, staff, and parents and carers for their continued support throughout this year.

“We look forward to continuing to support all the children to achieve well and enjoy learning in our happy and nurturing school.”
